Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS)

Box Build Services

We Build It the Way You Want It

API EMS's manufacturing expertise is not just limited to PCB assembly services. Although designing, prototyping and assembling PCBs is a large portion of our business, many of our customers look to us to deliver completed subassemblies or finished products on a turnkey or consigned inventory basis. We offer a full suite of electronic and electromechanical services including:

SMT Assembly Services

API EMS has over 20 years of SMT (surface mount technology) expertise for you to leverage. Although the equipment and processes have changed over these years, one thing has not - our commitment to your project.

Today, we utilize state-of-the-art, fully automated placement equipment to quickly and accurately assemble SMT PCB (printed circuit board) assemblies. Our three fully automated SMT lines are rated at over 180,000 parts per hour, and up to 2,500 components per PCB. Our dedicated RoHS line includes the latest Vitronics reflow oven with lead-free capability.

Our automated SMT lines are capable of placing fine pitch package sizes such as 0201 components and micro-BGAs to .010" (.25mm) diameter and .021" (.53mm) minimum pin pitch.

PCB Assembly / Manufacturing Services

API EMS offers a wide range of services for PCB manufacturing, subassembly, electromechanical assembly, final product assembly (box build) and full turnkey production. Whether your board is simple or complex, and no matter what quantity you need, you get the same high quality, quick time-to-market service that has made API EMS one of the fastest growing companies in the nation.

Supply Chain Management Services

Being a supply chain management partner means more to us than just assembling your printed circuit boards. It means being flexible and working with you to provide inventory and stocking programs as well as logistics support to seamlessly integrate with your operation. It means providing you with superior customer service and offering the lowest total cost of ownership without sacrificing quality. It means we understand that you need to keep your inventory levels low to control costs, yet still need to respond quickly to new orders to satisfy your customers.

New Product Introduction (NPI) Process

Introduction

Vision: To provide rapid R&D, Prototyping and Production Planning Services - on time, on budget, with the highest level of quality to minimize our Customers' time to market and ensure reliable future production.

Successfully launching a new product into the market involves a number of challenging and complex tasks, each critically linked to the one preceding it. All too often great product ideas fall far short of expectations or fail altogether because one or more tasks does not receive the necessary level of attention. This is especially true if the product concept is not fully validated during testing or worse yet, a validated product has not been optimized for cost-effective production and assembly.

NPI/Prototype Services

API EMS is ready to help you convert your idea or design into proof of concept assemblies that can rapidly migrate into full-scale production. Our NPI/Prototype Department is organized as an autonomous group comprised of individual work cells that:

  • are ISO 9001:2008 certified
  • are IPC-A-610D Class II (production) and Class III (high reliability) certified
  • are IPC J-STD-001 certified
  • adhere to IPC and UL standards

This organizational structure allows us to streamline the build process and generate prototype assemblies for you in as little as 24 hours.

Immediate Feedback Improves Design

Our prototype line operators work directly with the API EMS engineers on your project and provide timely feedback regarding manufacturability and testability. This valuable information is used to guide design changes that can lower production costs, improve quality, and enhance performance.

Through-Hole to SMT Conversion

Over 90% of today’s PCB assemblies use surface mount technology (SMT) - and for good reason. High-speed SMT machines reduce hand labor while improving the accuracy of component placement. SMT also supports automated soldering and testing techniques for consistent quality and additional cost savings.

API EMS has the engineering know-how to assist you in converting your current through-hole designs into modern surface mount technology, taking advantage of the latest SMT production methods, and automated equipment.

PCB Layout Services

Printed circuit board (PCB) design and layout is one of API EMS’s specialties. Our engineers have many years of experience designing PCBs for performance and manufacturability.

All too often, even the best engineers are guilty of designing a circuit board that meets specifications, but presents significant challenges during production. It's not really their fault - it is simply a case of the engineer not being familiar with the downstream manufacturing process and how their design choices can have ramifications on it.

Our engineers and designers have the luxury of understanding the PCB manufacturing process. We can design a layout that will not only meet your technical specifications but will leverage our manufacturing expertise to insure your project is optimized for production.

Design Engineering Services

For more than 30 years, design engineering expertise has been a fundamental element of API EMS. This tradition continues today with experienced engineers who are dedicated to quality and efficiency.

We combine advanced engineering intelligence with a keen knowledge of cost efficiencies to provide state-of-the-art solutions to modern problems. API EMS design engineers are experts in designing products that perform well and can be manufactured cost-effectively. We can help you deliver a higher quality product to your customers at lower total cost.

If you have an existing design, we can help you optimize it for streamlined production. If you need a design, our engineers can work with you to oversee your product from concept to completion, incorporating DFM/DFA/DFT (design for manufacturability / design for assembly / design for test) principles in the early design stages to assure your production phase is seamless.

Program Management

Your Dedicated Program Manager

Although the level of complexity may differ from a simple PCB subassembly to a complete product box build, one aspect of API EMS will not vary - the way in which we manage your project. At the initiation of your project, you will be assigned a dedicated Program Manager who will serve as your single point of contact within API EMS for your project's duration. If you have one or more projects with us already, your existing Program Manager will assume responsibility for this new project as well for your convenience.
