CAC/PIV Card Reader Makes Any Printer or Multi Function Device a Secure, Print-on-demand Device

ORLANDO, FL — August 22, 2011 — API Technologies Corp. , a provider of electronic systems, subsystems, RF, and secure systems for defense, aerospace, and commercial applications, announced today that its Netgard™ MFD can now enable multi-function devices (MFD) with secure print release capabilities. The Netgard MFD will be on display at Booth #636 at LandWarNet, August 23-25 in Tampa, FL.

When used with workflow software, the Netgard MFD allows U.S. Department of Defense ("DoD") employees to send any job to their network print server and then print the document on-demand at any printer/MFD connected to the network by swiping a CAC (Common Access Card) in the Netgard reader. The Netgard MFD is currently used by the DoD to make previously non-secure MFDs compliant with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12).

"By using the Netgard MFD in conjunction with workflow software like Notable Solutions’ AutoStore, users can send their file to the print server then simply swipe their CAC card and enter a PIN into the Netgard at any networked printer to receive their printed materials," said Rick Mahar, VP & General Manager, Secure Systems and Information Assurance Division, API Technologies. "Any printer or MFD can now be a secure, print-on-demand device. There is no need to buy a new printer, scanner, or copier." The Netgard MFD is installed inline to each printer/MFD. More information on the Secure Print Release function of the Netgard MFD can be found at

The Secure Systems and Information Assurance Division of API Technologies offers security products for both government and commercial customers including: the Netgard line of security and encryption products; TEMPEST products under the Cryptek™ (USA), EMCON® (Canada), and SST™ (Europe) brands; and the ION Networks line of network security devices for remote device management.
