Secure USB Hub Protects Sensitive Information from Unauthorized Devices; Guards Against Information Leaks

RONKONKOMA, NY — DECEMBER 6, 2010 — API Technologies Corp., a provider of highly engineered products and services to the global defense sector, announced today the availability of the EMCON® Secure USB Hub. A 4-port USB hub, it provides organizations easy to use administrative control of USB devices connected to individual workstations. This helps guard sensitive data by prohibiting the use of unauthorized USB devices.

"Because of its plug and play capabilities, USB has become the industry standard I/O port on workstations. However, this convenience poses significant risks to organizations where the protection of information is a must," said Marc Dumais, EMCON Product Manager, API Technologies. "The EMCON Secure USB Hub solves this problem by giving organizations an easy-to-use solution to manage access to USB ports."

"Installing the EMCON Secure USB Hub is a simple and cost-effective step organizations of all sizes can take to help protect against information leaks," he added. "It is a great addition to the API family of secure communication products."

The patent pending EMCON Secure USB Hub is locked into any existing USB port on a desktop or laptop. Port locks (included) plug into all remaining USB ports on the computer thus requiring all USB access to go through the Secure USB Hub. While in ‘administrative mode’ USB devices are then plugged into the USB hub authorizing their use. These USB devices can be unplugged and plugged back into the same hub and workstation without re-setting. No other USB device will be able to run on the workstation without additional administrative authorization. The EMCON Secure USB Hub allows control over common USB devices such as flash drives, web cameras, imaging and printing products and smartphones.

The device has 4 USB-A style ports, as well as an administrator’s port. The Secure USB Hub is managed locally with a pin protected administrative key or via a Web interface. It weighs 1.75 lbs (.79 kg) and measures 1.5 in x 5.5 in x 3.7 in (3.8 cm x 14 cm x 9.4 cm). For ordering information, please call +1 (613) 723-1838, or e-mail sales@EMCON.com.
